Firehouse Subs New York Steamer (Copycat Recipe)

🍞 Ingredients (Makes 1 Large Sub)
1 submarine-style roll (white or wheat)

4 oz corned beef brisket, thinly sliced

4 oz pastrami, thinly sliced

2 slices provolone cheese

1 tablespoon yellow or spicy mustard

1 tablespoon mayonnaise

1 teaspoon Italian dressing

Optional: Dill pickle spear (on the side)

🔪 Instructions

  1. Prep the Roll
Slice the roll lengthwise, but don’t cut all the way through.

Scoop out some of the inner bread to make space for the meat.

  1. Heat the Meat & Cheese
    Stovetop Method:

Heat a skillet over medium heat with a bit of oil or butter.

Warm the corned beef and pastrami for 3–5 minutes.

Place provolone on top and let it melt over the hot meat.

Microwave or Rice-Cooker Steaming Method:

Place the sliced meats in a microwave-safe or steam-safe dish.

Lay cheese on top.

Steam or microwave for 1 minute, until hot and melty.

  1. Toast the Roll
Place the open roll on a baking sheet.

Broil in the oven or air fryer on low for about 2 minutes until the edges are lightly crisp.

  1. Assemble the Sandwich
Spread mayonnaise and mustard on the top half of the toasted roll.

Load the bottom half with the hot corned beef, pastrami, and melted cheese.

Drizzle Italian dressing over the meat.

  1. Serve
    Close the sandwich.

Cut in half and serve hot.

Optional: Serve with a dill pickle spear on the side.

💡 Pro Tips & Variations
Steam like Firehouse: Wrap meat and cheese in parchment and steam using a rice cooker or stovetop for ~4 minutes.

For a crispy crust: Use the broil setting in an air fryer instead of a full oven.

Upgrade your meat: Use quality deli corned beef and pastrami for better flavor, or cook your own at home if you prefer.
